Performing Abroad: What You Need to Know

At Serenity String Duo, we are thrilled to offer our musical services for weddings and events around the globe. Whether you're dreaming of a beach-side ceremony or a romantic vineyard reception, there are several important factors to consider when planning for an international performance.

Here’s a guide to help you understand what to expect and how to prepare.

1. Travel Costs and Planning

When you’re planning an event abroad, it’s essential to consider the costs associated with travel. While we can provide an estimated quote for flights, please note that exact fares may vary based on timing and availability. For example, an approximate cost for round-trip flights for the two of us plus our instruments can be around £1,000, but this can fluctuate.

  • Flight Details: When booking flights, airlines like EasyJet have specific regulations regarding musical instruments. Larger instruments, such as cellos, require a separate seat, while smaller instruments like violins can be carried on, provided they meet size requirements. It’s best to check the airline’s policies beforehand.

2. Accommodations and Transportation

Understanding your accommodation needs is crucial. If the venue that you've booked provides overnight stays, we’ll be happy to share a twin room. If not, we can look to book nearby accommodation, but the cost of this will be added to our quote.

Additionally, arranging transportation from the airport to the venue is important.

Make sure to confirm whether someone can pick us up, or if taxis will be necessary.

3. Performance Schedule

To create a seamless experience, we need clarity on the schedule for your event.

Here are some key questions to consider:

  • Which sections of the day will you want us to perform at? Popular options include:

    • Arrival and Dinner on the first evening

    • Ceremony and Cocktail Hour on the wedding day

    • Brunch or Pool Party the following day

  • What are the timings? Providing estimated start times for the ceremony, drinks reception, and wedding breakfast will help us plan the music needed.

  • Typically, we suggest approximately eight pieces for every half hour of performance.

4. Personal Touches

We love to incorporate elements that reflect your unique style and theme. Sharing details about your wedding colors allows us to coordinate our outfits accordingly, ensuring we complement your aesthetic.

For example, if your colors are champagne and navy blue, we’ll select attire that harmonizes beautifully with your palette.

5. Flexibility and Contingency Plans

Things may change, especially when it comes to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Having a contingency plan for any adverse weather is essential, particularly for outdoor events. Consider indoor alternatives or tents to keep everything running smoothly.

Conclusion

Performing abroad can be an exciting and rewarding experience, bringing a unique atmosphere to your wedding or event. By considering travel arrangements, accommodations, performance schedules, and personal touches, you’ll ensure a seamless process that allows you to focus on celebrating your special day.
